Following her successful debut release FALL INTO WINTER, another wonderful collection of four erotic novellas, aptly titled, yes, you guessed it, Spring into Summer, was released in July 2012. Lucky me, I received an electronic copy from the author herself: Eden Baylee, a fabulous writer whom I have met virtually and have come to admire greatly, not just for her fine writing, but also as a generous human being, an amazing role model, a truly supportive and caring friend, a woman with star quality.
I have readily admitted before and no shame in revealing again the fact that I am sort of a beginner when it comes to the genre of Erotica. The truth is: having come across Eden Baylee, and another erotica writer Vanessa Wu, both of whom being of Chinese origin and writing the ‘interesting genre’ of Erotica, my late but delicious ‘sex education’ has inevitably began, in a literary sense.
Yes, in recent months I have dived into a few short erotica stories by the authors afore mentioned, but no, I am not going to make this type of readings my regular bedtime diet. Let me come to the point: I enjoy Eden’s brand of erotic offerings. Her characters are believable and likable; her prose are exquisite and elegant; there are plenty of actions which are both exciting and engaging; then her choice of locations are extremely exotic. Let’s face it, if you are indulging your good self in romantic, erotic and sexy adventures, wouldn’t you pick somewhere like London, Dublin, Cape Cod and Bangkok?
Being an Asian living in the UK, I love the British and Irish Capital cites, for obvious reasons, familiarity being one of them. It was fun for me to ‘stalk’ Eden’s characters and ‘share’ their sexual fantasies. Oh no, I don’t mean exactly sharing these fantasies per se, but I can easily identify where their innermost desires and raw emotions come from, and why they want to act them out, with real and imaginary partners.
Of the four novellas, my personal favourites are the first and the fourth. I keenly feel the love and loss in “A Season for Everything”, as I know how deeply the theme of cancer resonates with the author herself, and many of us readers.
Again, it’s my Asian roots which allow me to get inside the mind and body of Sierra Zhao, as she ventures to exotic Bangkok and beyond, in a tale which is sensual and intriguing. Thailand, her sights and sounds, and her people, becomes even more inviting when I came to the last page of “The Lottery’.
I am torn between giving Spring into Summer a 4 or 5 stars, as I often do when I write reviews for authors towards whom I feel some form of connection. In this case, I have decided to award it a 4.5 star rating as my very first of the kind. This is my blog, so I am granted the ultimate power, including giving someone special an extra half star Sue me if you have a problem with that
Although each of these stories feature strong, independent women who know what they want and then go get it, I feel that perhaps certain intimate details are more appealing to male readers. I don’t know why but as I turned the pages I could easily visualize men, or some of them at least, finding the sex scenes more arousing and gratifying. I am aware that quite a few have already downloaded the stories, and many more are eager to Have I got your attention, gentlemen?
I also happen to know that Eden Baylee is going to diversity and branch out into other genres, and I am delighted. She is, in my view, an exceptionally gifted writer, and she will bring us, her fans worldwide, more fascinating stories and memorable characters, who will enchant us, and enrich our lives for years to come.
