Meeting Shy, Friendly and Caring Andrea Buginsky

Andrea Buginsky

I’d like to welcome a lovely author whom I have met through “Supporting Authors One Read At A Time”. Andrea featured me on her fabulous site just a few weeks ago during my book tour around the globe, and today I’m delighted to return her hospitality in my humble virtual abode :)

Andrea, can you please tell us something interesting about yourself?

I didn’t start out wanting to be a writer like I hear so many other authors talk about. Writing was always something I enjoyed, but didn’t see it as my career until college. Once I got into it, I was hooked, and decided I wanted to write books too.

What inspired you to write? Was there a special incident or did it come naturally?

It came naturally. I always enjoyed writing stories and papers in school, and I loved research papers.

Wonderful. How would you describe your own writing style?

I’m what’s called a “pantser,” meaning when I sit down to write I don’t have much planned, except the story concept itself. I read what I’ve already written, and then go from there. There are times when I’m not even sure what the outcome of the story will be until I get there.

I started out as a “pantser” as well, but over time I have become more of a “plotter”. Like you, I allow flexibility into my writing and let the story carry me :)

I assume as an author, you like reading – what’s your usual read?

YA fantasy, especially J.K. Rowling and Rick Riordan; Danielle Steel, Nicholas Sparks; new authors I meet through my writing groups.

Of the authors you mentioned above, I have read Nicholas  Sparks and enjoyed his romance novels. I’ve heard of the others, of course, great authors in their own right, but not my usual genre of reads.

What are you reading now? Do you have a book (apart from your own) which you highly recommend?

I’m currently reading “Into the Dark” by Stacy Green, a friend and colleague from my writing groups.

I would highly recommend the Magical Cure series of books by Tonya Kappes: “A Charming Crime” and “A Charming Cure.”

Thank you! I’m sure some of my readers are going to check them out :)

Can you give us a writing tip? Or something you have learned during your writing process?

There’s always room for growth and improvement. You never stop learning no matter how long you’ve been writing, or how much you have written.

Spot on! ‘Never too old to learn’ applies to authors too :)

If you were stranded on a desert island, what kind of music would you take with you (yes, you’re allowed to have an ipod :)?

Adult Contemporary (Celine Dion, Richard Marx, etc.), 80s, showtunes, some country, some rock, 50s and 60s.

Ha – I was once a huge fan of Celine Dion, and Richard Max (Right Here Waiting :)) I have even attended one of Dion’s concerts in Sheffield in the middle of 1990s:).

Do you have a motto to live by and what is it?

Reach for the stars, and make your dreams come true.

I share your motto – may your dreams come true!

If you were allowed a super power, what would it be?

Flying. I would love to just take off and fly away wherever I wanted to go.

Me too!

Please tell us about your current project and describe your latest work within 140 characters, as in a tweet.

“The Chosen, book 3: Striker’s Apprentice” Elf hunter Striker, leader of The Chosen, takes on an apprentice.

“The New Avalon” The Lady of the Lake takes a new trainee to school, where big news is about to erupt.

Author Bio: My name is Andrea Buginsky. I’m a 37-year-old freelance writer living with a congenital heart defect.

I have enjoyed writing since I was a kid. When I got to college, I decided to turn it into a career, and earned my BA in Journalism. I have been freelance writing for several years now.

I have always wanted to write a book, and decided I wanted to write for children. I love fantasy movies like “The Lord of the Rings” and “Harry Potter,” so I decided to try my hand at writing one of my own.

My first publication is “The Chosen,” a young adult fantasy I worked on for about three years. It was published by Solstice Publishing on December 14, 2010. The second book in THE CHOSEN series, “Nature’s Unbalance,” was published on July 17, 2012. I am currently working on the third book in the series.

I have also published , “My Open Heart,” an autobiography about growing up with heart disease. My hope is that it will give encouragement to young adults growing up with heart disease, or other chronci illnesses, as well as parents of children growing up with heart disease.

I live in the Tampa Bay, FL area, where I grew up. I am originally from NJ.

Nice to meet you Andrea. I enjoyed learning more about you. Interesting that you didn’t always want to write, but there again, neither did my son until he accidentally took a creative writing class and got hooked.
